Bob Dylan once said: “Take care of your memories, for you cannot relive them.” But our memories aren’t just photos, or old movies. I think some of the best memories we have are the stories our families have told over the years that may exist only in our minds. And sadly, as Covid-19 has reminded us, we don’t know what the future holds and how long the storytellers might be with us.

Through my work, I’ve learned three important things regarding the power of stories:

  1. A story becomes far more powerful when it can be told in the storyteller’s own voice.
  2. These stories, while often told amongst family, are rarely recorded.
  3. Recorded stories are a priceless treasure, in and of themselves, even if you do nothing further then preserving them for future generations.

Recording your family’s stories doesn’t require any fancy equipment! Today you can simply use the camera app on any smartphone to record either audio or video. This short video explores the power of stories, how you can preserve them, and in addition, how you can enhance those recorded stories, either as narration in a Video Fusion Slideshow or transcribed as a journal entry into a Memory Album. If you need help in getting started or would like to enhance those recorded stories, just let us know. We love to tell your stories!
